FAQ

Do you accept insurance?

We are “out of network” providers which means we do not directly take insurance.  However, we provide you with a statement of services, which you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many of our clients have a substantial portion of their services reimbursed. Please contact your insurer for details on reimbursement procedures and the types of services covered.

Most of our clients will use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and get reimbursed by their insurance company for out of network services.

We collect payment at the time of service and provide you with a statement that you can submit to your insurance company for any reimbursement for which you may be eligible. The codes we use are 90791 for intake appointments and 90837 or 90847 for follow-up appointments.

What are your fees?

Our initial intakes will range between $225 to $275 depending on the provider.

Follow-up appointments range between $175 to $240 depending on the provider.

Please contact the office at hello@tenderheartscounseling.com for more information on fees and services.

What is "Play Therapy"?

Play therapy is a specialized technique where therapists use play-based activities to help children express and process their emotions.

For parents, it’s a way to understand and support their child’s emotional and behavioral challenges.  Through play, children can improve communication, cope with difficult feelings, and develop healthier behaviors.

How do I make an appointment?

The first step in scheduling appointments is reaching out to the provider with whom you are interested in scheduling:

Allison Brown, LCPC     allison@tenderheartscounseling.com
Michael McCoy, LCPC  michael@tenderheartscounseling.com

We will schedule a time to talk over the phone to determine if an intake appointment should be scheduled.

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 48- hour cancellation policy. If you are sick and it is appropriate to transition to a video platform, the appointment can occur virtually.

We do have a “no sick person” policy where we ask people not to come to the office if they currently have active symptoms as well as if they have tested positive for COVID and do not have symptoms.

Do you offer video or in person appointments?
We can meet in our offices in person or virtually through a secure video appointment platform.
Do you use evidence-based approaches to therapy?
Yes. We are focused on providing evidence-based interventions. In addition to having significant training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Play Therapy, we are constantly engaging with continuing education to stay current with the evidence-based approaches that will best help the clients with whom we work.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me or my child?

We start with an initial phone call where you can share information about what is going on. We will provide feedback about our experience and ability to work with those concerns. On the call, you should determine if you feel like you are able to connect with us.

At the initial session, it’s a time to connect, determine a plan, and see if you feel comfortable working with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask.

There is no one therapist that is perfect for everyone, and our goal is to help you get connected to a provider that can help you.
